Michael Page, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, is inviting the Young Adults (and others from the CHBC) to join his congregation for a night to hear about his heart for ministry to the ex-offender. CHBC and Antioch have been developing a partnership in ministry for quite some time, and I am pleased that Michael desires to start a Faith Team with members from our church.
A Faith Team is a group of 12 people who come together twice a month to develop a relationship with a current offender serving the last year of his sentence and seeks to help him make the transition the first year out of prison. It is an incredible opportunity to serve in this ministry of redemption.
Peter Bell, an ex-offender who was helped by a faith team, will be giving his testimony, and I think this will be worth the price of admission (which is free by the way!).
Dinner starts at 6 and the program begins at 6:45. I would love for us to show up at this event to continue to deepen our partnership with Antioch Baptist Church.
Contact Adam Klein if you are considering going to this event so we can reserve a meal for you.
This week we are starting our new series on the Gospel of John. Often, when it comes to describing faith, the church does a good job in outlining what it is that one must believe in order to follow Christ. However, sometimes the church over emphasizes the act of “belief” without speaking to the reason for such a transformation of the mind. Namely, that we would “…have life in his name” (Jn. 20:31).
This series will explore John’s unique contribution and witness to Jesus among the four gospels. John’s perspective, linguistic style, and use of symbols leads the reader to believe in Jesus as the only source of hope, and that hope in Jesus is the only way to live life to the full.
This past week we took a look at the prologue (1:1-18) to get a taste of John’s gospel. This week we will take a look at we will be looking at the start of John’s second section of his gospel typically known as, “The Book of Signs.” Specifically we will be studying 1:19-2:11, so feel free to read it ahead of time!
