What curriculum is used and what is emphasized?

Children age 2 through kindergarten use the Hands On curriculum by Group Publishing. The Hands On curriculum:

  • presents stories in chronological order.
  • coincides with the major church holidays of Christmas and Easter.
  • is organized into units of 4-6 weeks each, allowing children to really absorb one story or character.
  • has a strong emphasis on teaching through multisensory play.
  • Scripture memory and prayer experiences follow CHBC's own Firm Foundation curriculum.

Children in first through fifth grades use the Firm Foundation curriculum, developed at CHBC. The Firm Foundation curriculum:

  • encourages children to explore and experience a variety of types of prayer.
  • covers Bible stories, Bible memory, and Bible skills.
  • Students learn directly from a Bible appropriate to their age level.
  • Emphasizes narrative portions of Scripture.
  • Stories are presented in chronological order to give students the "big picture" each year.
  • The stories are arranged to coincide with the major church holidays of Christmas and Easter.

Teachers developed this curriculum and teachers are encouraged to use their gifts and creativity in implementing it as long as they stay within the bounds of CHBC doctrine and policies.

Copies of each curriculum are provided for parents. We encourage you to get a copy!
