Nursery

“ Whoever welcomes one of these little children in My name welcomes me.”

The Nursery Ministry derives its purpose from Jesus' words. It is our joy to welcome your child in the name of Jesus. We want nursery to be a place where the tiniest among us can experience the love of Christ through his body. We want parents to be able to worship without distraction, confident that their precious child is safe in loving hands. The nursery ministry operates during both worship services in rooms 256, 258, and 264.

This is Kay Springs, our nursery supervisor for 11:05.  During the week, Kay is an award-winning special education teacher to children with profound disabilities. She is also a proud grandmother. Kay is there each week, and gets to know parents and the individual children. Our beeper system gives nursery staff a way to contact parents if their baby needs them. It is also part of a child security system, where a baby cannot be picked up without the beeper.

Here's a peek inside our infant room. Pictured are volunteers Randy, a grandfather, and Ellen, a mother of six. Randy and Ellen are part of a team who serve in the nursery on a rotating basis. (Other volunteers are out of view) Each room has at least one volunteer that serves weekly, so that someone within the room knows the individual personalities and needs of each child.

Our toddler room. Oh, the wonder of bubbles!

Jocelyn Mathews is the nursery supervisor for the 9:30 service.  Laurie  Newell, Children’s Sunday Program Coordinator, is the staff member in charge of the nursery and its volunteers. Laurie can be reached at 732-2990 after noon or at LNewell@biblechurch.org

Volunteer

Would you like to join our ministry and experience the mystery of welcoming  Jesus in the guise of a little child? Volunteers may choose to  serve once a month or weekly. There are also service opportunities, such as check-in of children, which do not require working through the entire worship service. You can pick up an application at the nursery desk or Info Desk (lobby). Contact Laurie if you have questions.

Nursery Alternatives

Some parents may prefer to keep their young children with them during a service. There are three alternatives to the nursery:

Infants and young children are always welcome in the Auditorium during the service. Please be aware of the noise level of your youngster, however. Even happy noises can distract people around you from worship.

If your infant or young child begins to be restless during the service, you may take him or her to the Cry Room. This room is adjacent to the auditorium and has a glass wall and an audio link to the service. Here your child can move about while you can still see and hear what is happening in the service. This is located in the back right of the auditorium (as you are seated, looking toward the stage)  and can be reached by exiting the auditorium into the corridor. Please keep chatting with other adults to a minimum and be aware that excessive noise in the Cry Room can distract other parents with their young children. A child who is inconsolable or very exuberant should be taken to another part of the building where his or her noise will not disturb anyone. Sick children are not permitted in the Cry Room.

The Nursing Mothers' Room provides a cozy, private environment for nursing mothers. It is located across the hall from  the front left entrance to the of the auditorium (as you are seated and looking toward the front), near the kitchen. The "back door" of the Nursing Mother's Room opens next to the main women's restroom. We have provided FM audiofeed so that you can hear the service. As in the Cry Room, be aware that other mothers may want to tune in to the service, and try to keep chatting to a minimum.

Looking to connect with other parents of nursery-age children?

One way to connect with other parents is to join the New Parents’ Group list serv. You can learn about existing children's ministries and resources at the church, as well as new programs & groups getting organized.  The list serv can also be used for starting new playgroups or child-friendly small groups, reaching out to new members with children, or simply trading kid gear and advice. Click here to access the webpage for the New Parents Group.
