Children’s Christmas Musical & Dessert Fellowship
On Saturday, December 9 at 6:30pm, our children’s Sonlight choir and orchestra will present a wonderful Christmas musical called “Angel Alert!” It lasts about 45 minutes and is followed by a party of Christmas goodies and hot cider. Please bring a plate of your favorite Christmas dessert or treat to share with friends and neighbors.
Children’s Christmas Drama Assistants STILL Needed
This year, the Sonlight Choir will be performing “Angel Alert.” a Christmas musical play on Saturday, December 9 and they need help in a variety of areas including: set design, costume coordination, prop coordination, sound and lighting (very simple). If you can help with any of these things, please contact Ann Smith.
Last Regular Children’s Sunday School
Sunday, December 10 is the last regular Children’s Sunday school for children through 5th grade. You may want to encourage your child to make a Christmas card for their teachers and bring it that day to thank them for their service and commitment to children all year.
Birthday Party for Baby Jesus
On Sunday, December 17, there is no Sunday school but we have our annual Birthday party for Baby Jesus held each service for ages 3-K, grades 1st-2nd, and grades 3rd-5th. The children start our worshiping with parents in the service and then are escorted downstairs in groups for the parties. At the birthday party, your child will hear a story related to Christmas (such as the legend of the candy cane or the 4th Wiseman), do a craft related to the story, eat a Christmas snack, and sing carols.
Here is where we need your help... Although young adults make up a significant percentage of our regular Sunday morning volunteers, and we anticipate that there will certainly be some college students and youth who will enjoy helping, we will still need many parents volunteers to make this happen. Our Birthday Party Coordinator has been hard at work, getting everything organized to the last detail. Our previous volunteers have given consistent feedback that things went smoothly, so we’re not asking you to volunteer for “chaos.” We will parents to help to staff the room: helping children with crafts, distributing snacks, etc. We will also need singers and some instrumentalists to lead the carols. (You don’t have to be soloist material—just full of the Christmas spirit!)
This year, Fall Festival had to be cancelled because only two people volunteered to help. This was a loss not only to the children of CHBC who had enjoyed the event in years past, but to folks who were planning to bring kids from homes where they do not hear about Jesus. The same is true for Jesus’ birthday party. In a large church, it can be easy to think that you aren’t really needed, or there is someone more talented, or just that someone else has probably got it covered. But, the fact is, we really do need you when we ask for your help.
We will let you know by Monday, Dec. 11 if we need to cancel this event due to shortage of volunteers. In that case, you will need to plan for your children to be with you on Sunday morning.
Christmas Eve Services
On Sunday, December 24, there will only be one service held in the morning at 9:30am. No children’s Sunday school but crayons and activity pages will be provided. Later that day, we will have a Family Christmas Eve Candle-light Service at 5pm. Join us as the story of Jesus’ birth is dramatized , we sing familiar carols, and sing “Silent Night” by candlelight. This service lasts less than an hour—in plenty of time to get everyone home for supper! There is no childcare but the service is very child-friendly. Invite your family and friends! At 7pm, we will have another candle-lighting service with special music and communion. An offering will be taken at both services for the Powerhouse Church in South Africa.
New Year’s Eve Service
On Sunday, December 31, once again there is only one service at 9:30am. No children’s Sunday school but crayons and activity pages will be provided. Regular Sunday school resumes on January 6.
