Christmas Holiday Happenings for Kids

Christmas Musical and Dessert

You are Invited to a Christmas Musical and Potluck Dessert at 6:30pm on Saturday, December 8, 2007. This year, the Sonlight Children’s Choir will present a special holiday musical play called “The Mystery of the Manger” that you won’t want to miss. The play lasts about 45 minutes and will be followed by a potluck dessert social with coffee & hot apple cider. We will also light the luminaries that line the drive around the church for the first time this season at 6pm as part of our kick off of the holiday season.

Everyone is welcome to come and bring their friends!

Jesus’ Birthday Party

Sunday, December 16, during each service. Children in 2’s classes and nursery will go to their regular rooms.

What should parents and children expect that Sunday?

Plan to take your children in our 3’s classes through 5th grade classes will go to the service with you. Please make them a name tag before taking them into the service. If your child is 3 or 4, please include YOUR signature under the child’s name. This will be compared to your signature when you pick them up for child security purposes.

The children will  enjoy singing and a short children’s sermon before being escorted to the party with other children in their age groups: 3-4’s will be in rooms 121-123; K-2nd in rooms 263-267; 3rd-5th in rooms 255-257. Parents will pick the children up in those rooms after the service.

What would Jesus like for a present? In the parable of the sheep and the goats, Jesus told us:

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat…..”

"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Children can bring canned or boxed food for local organizations serving the poor as their birthday present. (Please don’t wrap!)

What will the children do in the birthday party?

They will sing carols, listen to a story related to Christmas, make an ornament related to the story, sing “Happy Birthday” to Jesus and have cake and juice. 3’s-4’s will listen to a story about the Christmas star, K-2nd will listen to the Legend of the Candy Cane, and 3rd-5th will hear the story of The Fourth Wise Man.

How can parents help? Jesus’ birthday party is a time for children to focus on the reason we celebrate Christmas; additionally it gives the Sunday school volunteers an extra week off as a Christmas present. We would love parents who do not normally serve weekly in the children’s program to volunteer to help in the parties: helping with crafts, passing out snacks, etc. There will be a leader in each room who will know just what is going on, so you won’t be left wondering what to do! If you have musical ability (you can sing or play an instrument), we’d love that help as well. Contact Laurie Newell at LNewell@biblechurch.org . (If you don’t have access to email, call at 732-2990 between noon and 10 PM)

  • Christmas Eve services:

CHBC has two Christmas Eve services:

    • 5:00 PM. This service is family–friendly. Children of all ages will be awed by the dramatization of the Scripture. We will see the angel speak to Joseph and to Mary, and thrill as she expresses the joy of the Magnificat through dance.  The angel and an angel choir will announce the news to the shepherds, who will share it with the congregation. The congregation will also join in through singing familiar carols such as “Away in the Manger” and “O Come All Ye Faithful” throughout the drama. There will be a short sermon that children can understand, and we will end with a candlelight singing of “Silent Night”. The service takes less than an hour.

If you have a child, aged K through middle school,  who would like to be in the angel choir, please email Crissie Cabrera at Crissie@biblechurch.org or 408-0310 x118. The child does not need to be in Sonlight Choir.

    • 7:00 PM. The service is more formal, with more complex songs and communion, and is geared toward adults.
