Volunteer Service

E-mail Print PDF

Have you wanted to serve in the church but haven't seen a place where your talents and gifts fit? Maybe you can't lead worship, your welcome bread could chip a tooth, and teaching Sunday School scares you to death. However, you do know how to change a lightbulb and you enjoy working outdoors. Maybe helping out with CHBC building needs could be the ministry for you.

Most Bible Church members don't realize the magnitude of what goes on behind the scenes to keep the building and grounds looking good. While workdays help tackle big jobs, there are other smaller tasks that need to be done on a continual basis. Below is just a sampling of the jobs.

Can't sing, preach, or teach? No problem!

Kitchen
Would you like to be trained on how to use our commercial kitchen? Maybe you are a great teacher and would like to train others. We also need volunteers to help organize the pantry or clean out the fridge or even washing dishtowels.

Setup
It is not unusual to have 8 to 10 events happening in a single day at the Bible Church. Most of these groups need rooms set up (moving chairs, tables, making sure they have the right AV equipment) and then reset for the next group. Not only do we need help with set up in classrooms, Fireside Room, etc., but when we have a large event in the auditorium,
it takes a team of 10 people 2-4 hours to reset the chairs.

Cleaning
With well over a thousand people walking through the church each week, there is bound to be dust and dirt left behind. We could always use help cleaning windows, sills, and blinds. You could help take out trash and recycling or even help pick up communion cups the first Sunday of the month. We even have our own muddy footprints to deal with, so we could use help spot cleaning the carpet as well.

Maintenance
How many volunteers does it take to change a light bulb? With 1,948 lightbulbs in the church, it could take a whole team. We also have 76 air filters that need changing periodically. If you like to paint, walls need almost constant touch up to cover scuff marks. If you have electrical, mechanical, or plumbing skills, those could be put to good use as well.

Grounds
Weeding, mulching, seeding. . . the list goes on. If you have a green thumb (or even a brown one, we're not picky), we could use your help. In addition to the main grounds, we also have the softball and soccer fields to maintain as well as a pond and irrigation system. Don't wait for a workday--you can adopt a spot! We'll give you your very own area on the Bible Church grounds to beautify.

Have your own idea? Let us know and we'll try to make it happen!
