Can you keep a secret?

E-mail Print PDF

I am so glad you were willing to, but I really want you to share what I am about to tell you.
Skg_logoIf you don’t know me personally, you may not know that I have a daughter…and two sons, but this is strictly girl talk!  One of the things that I try and do is to provide her with opportunities to explore the gifts God gave her.  That has opened many new doors for me as her gifts are very different from mine.  Another thing, and one of far more importance, is that I want her to know that her self-worth is found in Jesus alone and not in what the world says.  I also want her to value modesty, choose her friends wisely and strive for beauty as God defines it.

To that end, I searched for tools to help me reinforce that.  One of the best resources I found was actually in the form of an event.  For her 11th birthday, she and I, along with some other moms and daughters went to an event called Secret Keeper Girl. There the biblical truths about true beauty-Godly beauty- and modesty were explained in a way that not only supported what I was telling her, but did it in an unforgettable way.  We have lasting memories of that special night. I was also able to add to the book resources I had, as they have lots of great material.

Such an experience made me want to share it with my Bible Church family. I had my administrative assistant, Crissie, do a bit of investigating and found that the financial obligations were ones that my budget could not support.  Though that was disappointing, I never let the idea totally drop. Fast forward to last semester when a mom approached me and said she had heard of an event that she would love for us to host.  I told her my personal story and my ministry desire, but the cost was still too great.  Fast forward one more time to a couple of weeks ago! We were approached by the organization to partner with His Radio to bring the event to Bible Church. That meant a couple of things. First of all, I was able to give that mom from last semester a belated Christmas present.  There are strings attached, as I want/need her help to make this happen!  Secondly, you will now have the opportunity to share this experience with your daughter, at our church.   Admittedly, there are strings attached for you as well.  We need this event smothered with pray and we will need MANY hands and feet to make the night a reality.

SKG2Okay, enough of the back story!  My introverted husband always says I spend so much time with the back story.  It’s just the way I am!   Bottom line, take a peek at www.secretkeepergirl.com. One of their SKG Live Pajama Party tours will be coming to Bible Church on Sunday, March 4th. Ticket purchases will be through His Radio - click here to see how to do that! I would suggest purchasing the tickets as soon as possible as their events sell out.

In addition to praying for the lives of girls to be turned closer to the Father and for them to have a deeper sense of true beauty, we need lots of hands on to make this work.  Please, please consider how you can play a small role to make this big event special for our girls and many others. Many of the jobs will be great for grandmas, aunts, college students, young adults, etc. Please tell everyone you know in one of those demographics.

Here are a couple of things to think about as a way to help.  We’ll create an online volunteer sign up to make the bookkeeping simpler.  It will be open next week at our homepage by clicking "New&Events", "Event Registration".

6 load in/out crew…….male volunteers for heavy lifting

Set up crew- 8 people set up stage and 6 additional female volunteers to inflate balloons

12-14 merchandise sellers-work before event, during intermission and after the event

3 volunteer to work the Holt International Table during intermission

8 ushers

50-75 female counselors willing to share the gospel and pray with moms and daughters

I strongly encourage you to plan to attend this event with your daughter, granddaughter, niece, etc.  You will not regret it.  I also ask that you consider how you can help, in addition to praying.

Looking forward to sharing the evening with you,
Vickie Turner
Minister for Children and Families
