“Double-Wedding Ring”

Fay Farrow

Made by Fay Farrow, Byron Williams’s grandmother

This Double-Wedding Ring quilt is a very traditional wedding gift for a young couple, and this one was made for us when we were married in 1982 by Byron’s grandmother. She has made many, many quilts over the years, and when her grandchildren started getting married and having children she made sure that each couple and each great-grandchild got at least one quilt made by her. Granny Fay is one of the remarkable women in our lives. She is spunky and independent and energetic, and worked in a large garden, canning and preserving hundreds of quarts of produce each year, well into her 80s.

Her faith and industry have been an inspiration to us, and the loving care she put into her quilts with their simple designs makes every stitch special. She is now 95 years old and living in a nursing home, where she still talks about quilting and tatting and fun times from long ago.
