“Old Chhakse Pangkhep”

Unknown

Purchased by Jim Thomas

This quilt is Bhutanese. Jim Thomas bought it while in Nepal.

These long Cotton weavings were used in old times for wrapping around the lap when people sat down to eat or drink. But not by every one. These were a sign of position, only the Royal members or very high officials could use them. These were also carried over the shoulder of the Bursar of the High Rank in a ceremonial procession. This a very beautiful piece and well maintained. This piece is of 3 panels hand stitched together. It is little over 2 meters long excluding the tassels and about 68 cm wide.
