"Hidden Cathedral"

This quilt is almost entirely hand-sewn. I had long had the idea that the traditional Cathedral Window technique would look great with bright jewel-toned fabric on a black background. The 2004 Hoffman Challenge contest gave me the opportunity to try out my idea. The fabric in the diamond ‘windowpanes’ is the challenge fabric from that contest. I decided to put coordinating fabrics behind the windows to give more interest those are the ‘hidden’ fabrics. My goal in this quilt was to capture the color and vibrancy of stained glass windows viewed in a large dark nave. |
