“Leaves
and Light"
Betsy Long
Acrylic on Canvas
I have always loved watching the play of light and shadows in my garden,
in the woods, or along a country road. The contrasts of light and dark,
the sparkle of sunlight on water, the warmth of the winter sun all remind
me of the miracle of creation and who God is as the Light of the world. "Leaves
and Light" is my representation of a fleeting moment when the sun
was shining on a plant in my garden.
Betsy Long is the Administrative Assistant for InterVarsity Christian
Fellowship in the Blue Ridge Region. She also taught piano to young children
for a number of years. Betsy and her husband Jimmy have both enjoyed
exploring new interests as their child rearing years have transitioned
to the years of partnering with their adult children. She has been inspired
by the artists and the art exhibits at CHBC. On a whim she decided to
participate in some watercolor workshops taught by Deborah Pollard. Last
year the fun of experimenting with watercolor led her to Luna Lee Ray's
Botanical Watercolor classes through the Carrboro ArtCenter.
