“Beauty
in Freedom"
Jan Pulley
Acrylic
I was so struck by the exotic beauty and freedom of this
mother and daughter who graciously agreed to dance for me as models for
this painting. The tradition of their church allows them to express their
devotion to God and share with others the talents God bestows upon them
to present themselves as living sacrifices of praise. I love how sweetly
and carefully the mother models worship for her young daughter, through
her behavior not her conversation. Paul tells us that it is the calling
and responsibility of the older women of the church to show the younger
ones how to come along in the dance. "These older women must train
the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live
wisely and be pure, to take care of their homes, to do good, and to be
submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word
of God." Titus 2:4-5
