“From HIS Creation”

Locoya Hill

Acrylic/Paper/Glass/Canvas

I notice God and his character most often when I look at things that we tend to take for granted. For years I viewed trees, birds and rain as things that were nuisances. Trees’ leaves and birds dirtied my car, rain hindered my plans and the ocean was there only for me to enjoy at my convenience. I never looked beyond what was immediately obvious- directly in front of me.

This painting is inspired by my personal relationship with God and the way I have grown to understand him. I feel that humans were as close to God as possible when we were first created. When God first formed Adam from the earth, each time a child is born he breathes life into us, or when we chose to study the true meaning of his Word- that’s when we dance with him, fellowship with him. I view the Bible as the music behind our lives so that we had better worship him. God is there to be worshipped and that includes through song, dance, study, service and praise. In looking past who we appear to be, the man on the glass, we can see who we truly are- the man formed by God from his creation in his image.

Locoya M. Hill - "In 1993, I experienced becoming a Christian in high school after my parents’ divorce, and seeing that God provided as a father when I felt I had lost my own. He nurtured and developed that relationship through college through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. One of the most magnificent ways that I’ve recognized God and his character and power is through nature and its creation. After coming back to Chapel Hill in August, God showed me that the Bible Church was a great place to be for "church family" worship and development for my spiritual journey. I’ve been blessed to be one of the leaders with the Youth Staff at CHBC and find the opportunity to serve God through his ministry to be as much a growing and learning experience as it is an opportunity to lead."
