“Birdhouse”

Larry Downing

Ceramic Sculpture

A birdhouse is a temporary home like this body or this world. It is a metaphor reminding me to "consider the birds" and look to God as my creative creator source and my cherished destination. He has renewed my mind and set me free to see, at least a little, from his vantage point. Perhaps my renewed mind is dancing on the shoulders of the old man. My wife has learned to dance much better than I. Her greatest tip is to keep your eyes off your own feet and look your partner in the eye. May God grant us the wisdom to keep our eyes off of our stumbling feel and on Him.

Larry Downing - After earning his BFA in art in 1985, Larry taught at various schools in Durham. Currently he teaches middle and high school students at Durham School of the Arts and adults at the Durham Arts Council. He shows his work at Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill and Raleigh Contemporary Gallery in Raleigh.
