Kathy Ammon's Statement about this Exhibit

I started the Spirit series nearly four years ago when I began a spiritual journey in search of God. Though I always considered myself a Christian, I was longing for a more personal and active relationship with God. This journey began when my family and I began attending Apex United Methodist Church in the Fall of 2000. It was there that we felt the real presence of God. It was there that God began to whisper my name, and it was there that I began to answer. It was during this time that I became a person of true faith, a believer in God as an active and living presence in the world today. It was during this time that I began to paint about this experience.

These paintings reflect on my walk, and speak of my desire and need for a real and active God in my life. They were started as a way for me to reach God; yet I believe that God enabled me to create these paintings so that His truths and His word could be shared visually with others.

I believe I am supposed to share these paintings with others; to show them as a testimony to how God can and will come into our life, and change it for the better, if we just open our eyes to Him. The scriptures selected to accompany these paintings were ones that have spoken to me and have inspired me in the creation of these paintings. They are expressions of hope in a seemingly darkened world. They are expressions of love for a God that is capable of and is doing amazing things all around us. They are expressions of faith and belief in what we do not see, but what we know in our hearts and in our souls.

It is my prayer that God will speak to you about faith, hope, and love; and how He calls to each of us to come closer to him, and experience life as it was meant to be lived. I pray that God will use my paintings to speak to you in ways that will enable you to get closer in your walk with God.
