“Spirit Song”

Kathy Ammon

oil on canvas

This painting is from a new series that was started at the time I was experiencing a renewal in my faith and searching for a deeper relationship with God. I became inspired to look closer at the relationships people form through religion, both with God and with others. This evolved into my Spirit series which seeks to express Faith and Spirituality as an integral component of life. The hymn, “Spirit Song” was the inspiration for the title of this piece. It speaks directly to my thoughts for this painting.

Spirit Song by John Wimber

O Let the Son of God enfold you with his spirit and his love.

Let him fill your heart and satisfy your soul. O let him have the things that hold you,

And his Spirit like a dove wukk descend upon your life and make you whole.

Kathy Whale Ammon is known for her bold, expressionistic, and responsive paintings of humanity. She creates a world where people are intimately connected to one another. Her paintings speak of life and the experiences that give life substance.

Kathy was born in Spartanburg SC in 1960. She studied painting through combined studies at the University of South Carolina and the University of Texas at Dallas. After graduation in 1984, she moved to Melbourne Florida and continued her professional training; studying several years with Frits van Eeden, a renowned artist from the Royal and Reitvald Academies of The Hague, Netherlands. In 1988, she began working as a full time professional artist, exhibiting and selling her work through galleries and exhibitions. She and her family moved to Raleigh, NC in 1994 and reside in the small town of Apex.

Since 1997, Kathy’s studio has been located at Artspace in Raleigh, NC. It is open to the public and is in a unique warehouse that houses other artists studios and galleries in the City Market of downtown Raleigh, NC.
