“This Little Light of Mine”

Liza Howell

Oil on Canvas

James urges us to put our faith into action. In Jesus, there is no darkness. His light in us shines brightest against darkness. Three times Jesus tells Peter to feed and care for His sheep in response to Peter’s love for Him. Our love for Jesus compels us into action, to let our light so shine before men that they will see our good works and glorify our father in heaven. Many times His light in us illuminates His image in others.

Painting is one of the greatest joys of my life. It is the thrill of capturing a glimpse of the Lord’s ever changing masterpiece. Whether I’m painting a portrait or landscape, I am always in awe of the Creator behind my subject.

I graduated from UNC-CH in 1990 with a BA in Studio Art. I have studied illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1993, I began to work as a decorative painter in Faux Finishes. My love for oil painting took off in 1994 when I began to study painting under Mary Clark. She has given me wonderful training in color, landscape and portraiture.
