Statement of Faith

(summary)

We recognize Jesus Christ as God's living Word and sacrifice for sin. It is through God's initiative in sending Jesus into the world that man receives the knowledge of God in such a way that through faith in Him one comes to eternal life and a personal relationship with God. The Holy Spirit is this same God coming to dwell in the life of the believer to give direction for living. We recognize that the Bible is God's written word to man, revealed to and recorded by His apostles and prophets without error, and it is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice. It is the privilege of those who know Christ to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation. This privilege is never to be an occasion for sin, but rather leads to a fruitful, God-pleasing life. We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead as the guarantee of God's final victory over sin, evil, and death. We look forward to the personal return of Jesus Christ to the earth for His own people and for the righteous judgement of all. The Church is Christ's Body on earth in the present age. Every person who has trusted Christ is incorporated in the Church. We believe that the Lord established two ordinances to be observed until His return—baptism and the Lord's Supper—and we encourage participation in these by all believers. Realizing that there are differences in mode and meaning of baptism, we respect both infant and believers' baptism, but encourage the latter.
