What do you enjoy most about your job?
Children! I love kids, and love teaching them about a relationship
with God. It is also a kick on Sunday mornings to peek in the
nursery and see happy volunteers and babies, and to walk the
halls of Sunday school and see the rainbow of classroom experiences
created by the teachers. Since each teacher is an individual,
each classroom has its own personality. Undergirding everything
is the mystery of the privilege we in children’s ministry
have been given and the magnitude of the mission: Jesus said, “Whoever
welcomes one of these little children in My name, welcomes
Me. “ No less than Mary and Joseph, we have been given
the joy of welcoming Jesus Himself. There is a profound sense
of mission because of how important the childhood years
are in a person’s spiritual formation.: most of us die
believing whatever we believed by age 12-13.
Who is important in your life?
I remain surprised that God would bless me with my husband
Keith. This is surely grace, for I don’t deserve him!
Our four sons, Jeff (15), Caleb (13), Andrew (11), and Peter
(9) are a joy to both of us. I have been blessed with
some close lifelong friends and am blessed to still have
both parents.
What are your hobbies or interests?
I enjoy reading fiction and love walking outside. I have
been working on learning Spanish for a couple of years now.
I used to enjoy gardening and doing watercolor painting,
but haven’t had time for those for a while.
What is your favorite book? (besides the Bible)
The Lord of the Rings trilogy –since college. I’ve
read it to each of my sons in January once they had reached
their 8th birthday. It’s one of my favorite memories
with each of them.
What is your favorite movie?
Not the Lord of the Rings movies! They can’t
compare to the books, and I can’t help but compare
them. I
don’t watch a lot of movies, but like Star
Wars: Return
of the Jedi, My Big, Fat Greek
Wedding, and Princess
Bride.
