History The
Chapel Hill Bible Church first met in 1970. It consisted then of
about 20 people, many of them students and faculty at the University
of North Carolina. Values central to the church were biblical teaching
and radically Christian lifestyles. They met initially in a building
on UNC's campus, but outgrew that within a few years and built
a facility of their own just off campus. By 2001 they needed a
still larger building, where they now meet. The church is located
midway between Chapel Hill and Durham, reflecting the demographics
of those attending. They are about 1,500 in number on a Sunday
morning.
One of the ways the church lives out a radically Christian lifestyle is by giving high value to multi-ethnicity and unity among God’s people. Over 40 different nationalities attend the Bible Church. The church has also nurtured a relationship with Antioch Baptist Church, an African-American church in inner city Durham. Together they seek to transform a low income neighborhood in Durham. Through many other ministries and partnerships, the church seeks to be a blessing to those who attend, the community, and the world. |
